| Admission Requirements and Procedures | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Requirements for Admission: 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. 2. An undergraduate grade point average exceeding 2.5 on a 4 point scale. 3. Applicants must have successfully completed one year of general chemistry and one year of a biological science and at least one course in organic chemistry. Successful completion of a course in biochemistry and an upper level biology is strongly recommended. 4. Satisfactory scores on all three portions of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). A minimum combined Verbal and Quantitative score of 1000 is recommended. 5. Applicants not from an English-speaking country must achieve a score of 550 (paper) or 213 (computer) or 79-80 (internet) or better on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination. 6. Three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with the applicants academic work, at least two of which must be from former professors. 7. Interview by the Departmental faculty. The applicant must be judged acceptable by the majority of the faculty and the Department Head. The interview requirement may be waived in the case of exceptionally qualified applicants or foreign applicants. |

Applicants should contact the Graduate Program Recruiter of the
Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Neuroscience, LSU Health Sciences Center,
P.O. Box 33932, Shreveport, Louisiana, 71130-3932, Telephone (318) 675-7851.
A preliminary application form, obtainable from the Department or the
website, must be submitted to the Department along with copies of the transcripts, GRE scores (and TOEFL scores, if applicable)
and three rating forms by January 1.
If the faculty agrees that the applicant is acceptable to the Department,
an official application must be submitted to the School of Graduate Studies.
Two copies of each official transcript must be sent from the Registrar's
office of each college or university attended by the applicant, and the
original results of the Graduate Record Examination (and the TOEFL, if
applicable) must be forwarded directly to the School of Graduate Studies
by the Educational Testing Service. |
