Continuing Students

The goal of the program is hone the graduate students' academic skills and provide professional development opportunities. Students have increasing responsibility for planning and implementing programs as they advance.

Data analysis. A crash course on what to do with the data that you are collecting. It will cover both design and analysis issues.

Manuscript Writing. How to tackle that first manuscript including where to submit it and how to revise it.

•  Dissertation Writing. How to tackle the dissertation including the graduate schools rules for formatting and writing.

•  Becoming a Teacher. Strategies for crafting a class, preparing a syllabus and delivering a lecture.

•  Non-academic careers. Visits from scientists not working in academia with information on career options in technical writing, law, museums and public outreach, public policy, and the government.

•  Networking 101. How to make and maintain professional connections. Will include use of e-mail and the internet, as well as personal contacts at conferences and seminars.

•  Social Issues Roundtable. Informal discussion of the ethical, social, cultural, or public health implications of a controversial research area.
